Are you filled with Wonder when you look at the night sky? Your eye can't see scenes such as this enhanced image of the Helix Nebula, taken by NASA's Hubble space telescope, but isn't it beautiful? If you enjoy these images check out NASA's gallery of awesome photos.
That sense of wonder and beauty you feel when you gaze at the night sky is a message from your inner self. You are responding to a force within you. What you call appreciation is an inner urge to connect and realize, through love of art or music or nature, that you're a part of something magnificent.
As a Biologist, the fact that we all feel this urge tells me that having that sense of joy and beaurty provides us with a selective advantage that helps us compete as a species.
In the remorseless pressure of evolution only traits that confer an advantage persist. Joy is a reflection of something in our limbic system that helps those who have it survive better than those who don’t.
This web site explores this trait we share and weaves it into a story that spans the history of the universe. Gazing up at the night sky connects us with the earliest moments of creation.
One thread of this story is how earth formed from the debris of a supernova that lit up the heavens long ago. Out of this spectacular event the elements formed that make up earth.
Next, over billions of years, the earth itself evolved from a molten glob to this lovely blue planet on which life evolved. Life, that contradicts the laws of thermodynamics, can reproduce itself so life survives while individuals do not.
Then life, too, evolved as humans, driven by wonder and the quest for beauty and understanding developed the tools to communicate so knowledge survives while individuals do not.
This story is written through the pages listed above. Eash contains a short description.
The story begins and ends with wonder. Knowing a little more about how we got here provokes curous questions about where we are going and how it all fits together.
Come share the intricacies of our place in the cosmos through these UniVerses.
Life is a journey, and this web site is a prism to help explore what we know about the past that connects you with other designs and a new frontier of science, the synthesis of all we've learned.
Those twinkling stars connect us with the furthest recesses of time, and we begin this inquiry by exploring what we have learned about the evolution of time and space. To truly understand we have to consider the context of our quest. Prepare to stretch your imagination.
We are on the verge of discovering the power of a new force field that connects the many puzzles whose messages we have neglected.
