Reflected photons skim across all time
connecting us to primal matter’s birth
and tease us with the paradox sublime:
the metaphysics of our stay on earth.
A star’s detritus fuels the chemistry,
spawns molecules that intricately gyrate
endowing reproducibility
in cells who somehow resonate
become intuitive and analyze
and wonder whether we’re alone and try
to understand the light between the skies
and, tasting the eternal yearning, die.
Each life’s a trice but Life, the power, transcends
On each the cosmic synthesis depends.
In the span of the universe our lives are infinitessimal. Yet we are part of a much larger process we cannot comprehend. An individual cell cannot conceive of an idea, yet intelligience has evolved through something made up entirely of cells. How?
We have journeyed to the edge where classical science is just evolving. Earlier we showed there must be an energy minimum that induces cooperation between complex mixtures of macromolecules. Yet the laws of thermodynamics have not yet caught up to explain how.
The evolution of intelligence is another example of forces of integration that we cannot yet measure. We don't fully understand the components of the mind, never mind the mechanics of how they interact, but the places where the known rules of science break down are the most fascinating.
How does intuition work? or memory? How does he mind extrapolate? or deduce? How do we know one idea is right, another wrong? Science has not yet begun to address these questions, but the interface between imagination and reality is a wonderful place.
Thebehavior of lightprovides an interesting insight into transcendentalism.
