creation
Before, the whole was in a state of Grace
when God commenced the cosmic creation,
which cleft the fetters, splitting time from space
and energy from matter; lit inflation.
Then light began to chase through space’ dilation
and matter fractalized in blazing sparks,
imploded into miniscule gyrations.
While strangely charming upside-down quarks
composed of infinitesimal strings.
the whole richochets throughout infinity
as massive twirling clouds together cling
in clusters bound by mutual affinity.
from galaxies to stars the strings vibrate
the common theme’s that everything rotates.
Begin at the beginning. Or at least, the beginning we’re able to sense. Our most sensitive instruments can trace the life of the Universe back almost 14 billion years, when an astounding event began the process that led to the formation of the Cosmos as we know it. Often called the “Big Bang,” this mysterious event evolved into the dispersion of galaxies we know as the night sky.
The first few hundred thousand years after the Origin are strange indeed. The intensity of the universe in the first moments would annihilate our sun like a snow flake. Nothing in our experience helps us understand that early universe. Only the runes of unintelligible mathemagicians illuminate the weird state of the early universe.
In our world things move back and forth through four dimensions. Forward and back, left and right, up and down. (Except we cannot move back in time.) In the world we encounter units of length are constant.
But, in the first millennia, dimensions, mass and energy were very different. They related in ways that defy our senses. In the beginning space itself was dynamic and evolving, too. The term “Big Bang” makes us think of space as an endless volume which is gradually being populated with matter flying from an explosion, but that is because we are applying our preconceptions of our experience on a system that is very different.
The unimaginable concentration of energy in those first moments was so intense that the Physical laws that describe our Universe simply don’t apply. Out of that chaos, Strings, the fundamental building blocks, collapsed into infinitesimal lengths that started assembling into the quarks, electrons and bosons that are the constituents of matter as we know it. Quarks come in different types with whimsical names: up, down, top, bottom, strange and charm.
In a sense, matter and energy separated by space and that is how the infinite and the infinitesimal came into being.
Space evolved out of this process. Space was far from uniform during this paroxysm.
Later there was a spectacular event called the Cosmic Inflation, during which the entire universe dispersed over incredible distances in an instant.
In other words, space itself exploded, creating the relationships between objects and the spaces between them we now see.
Careful measurements of distant supernovas have shown us that space continues to change. Galaxies far, far away are getting farther away as the space between us expands.
Another way to picture this expansion is to imagine that all matter is shrinking. That model, too, explains why the distances between galaxies is increasing. We’re getting further apart because we’re shrinking.
In time things cooled, and the great cycles emerged.
